The Austrian Quitline

The Austrian quitline launched on World No Tobacco Day 2006 and concentrates on smoking cessation and the support of a smokefree life. It is an initiative of the Social Insurance Agencies, the Federal States and the Department of Health, operated by the Lower Austria Health Insurance (NÖGKK).

Most of the first contacts are reactive, which means that smokers call the number 0800 810 013 by themselves. For smokers who intent to quit or ex-smokers who call to prevent relapse we offer proactive counselling.

To offer health professionals and health care institutions an effective support for their smoking patients, we provide the program Rauchfrei Ticket (fax to quit). With this tool it is possible to refer smoking patients directly to the quitline and patients get proactively called by the counsellors.
